The summer came and went, but not without plenty of excitement from the 2007 Liberty. Through the up’s and down’s, it was a great season for the young squad to get some experience in the quicker, bigger, stronger WNBA.

As players are beginning to part ways en route to off-season endeavors, NYLiberty.com is handing in its season homework – a final report, which takes a look back at how each member of the team faired this summer. Today’s chapter of the report looks at guard Lisa Willis.

TRADING COASTS
New York acquired Willis from Los Angeles on June 20th in exchange for Sherill Baker … A California native, Willis was the fifth overall pick in the 2006 WNBA Draft and averaged 4.6 points and 13.3 minutes in 24 games in her rookie campaign … With the Sparks in 2007, she appeared in eight games and averaged 9.6 mpg and 2.3 ppg … This season she earned a No. 12 ranking in the WNBA with steals per 40 minutes (2.39) and averaged 3.8 points and 1.7 rebounds in 16 games for New York.

SEARCHING FOR VICTORY
Willis made her Liberty debut when she checked into the June 22nd game versus San Antonio with 1:12 remaining in the first quarter … She logged 11 minutes, three points and one assist … When the Liberty bested the Monarchs on July 8th, it marked the first win for Willis at Madison Square Garden … In 2006, Willis and the Sparks were unsuccessful in finding victory in her first game at The Garden, as the Liberty won in overtime, 89-79.

IMMEDIATE IMPACT
In the second game with her new team, she posted 12 points against Indiana and grabbed five boards … When the Liberty hit the west coast for its three-game road swing, just two days later Willis led the team in scoring with 15 points, six boards and three steals, against the Monarchs.

THE DOWNTOWN DIVA
With the addition of Willis to its roster, the Liberty added more ammo to its perimeter game … She ended her sophomore WNBA season averaging .302 from three-point land … Willis ended this season ranked No. 10 in the League in three-point field goals per 40 minutes (2.74).

BACKCOURT REUNION
Before suiting up for New York this season, Willis shared a backcourt with guard Loree Moore while attending Narbonne High School in Harbor City, California … Willis and Moore led the team to an overall record of 115-7, en route to three California State Championships (‘98, ‘00 , ‘01) and two USA Today national titles (‘00 and ‘01).
