2007 In Review: Team
NYLiberty.com's Final Report

The summer came and went, but not without plenty of excitement from the 2007 Liberty. Through the up’s and down’s, it was a great season for the young squad to get some experience in the quicker, bigger, stronger WNBA.

NYLiberty.com is handing in its season homework – a final report, which takes a look back at how each member of the team faired this summer. Since we have assessed the players, today’s chapter of the final report looks at the team as a whole.

ENDING ON A HIGH NOTE
The Liberty finished the regular season with a 16-18 overall record, mirroring the finish of the 2003 campaign … New York closed out the 2006 season, winning seven of its last 10 games … In the last 10 games of 2007, the Liberty went 6-4 and with its three consecutive wins, had the best streak in the Eastern Conference to close out the regular season.

GUNNING FOR THE TOP
With a .372 percentage from three-point range on the year, New York wrapped the regular season as the League’s No. 1 overall leader … Last year’s leader was Phoenix, with a .367 shooting percentage … This season, the Mercury had the most players represented in the WNBA’s Top 20 category of long-range shooters with six, while the Liberty boasted five.

FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT
The Liberty was one of the only two teams to hand the league leading Detroit Shock two losses this season and the first to do it, with its victory on August 12th at The Garden … Its only two overtime matches of the regular season came at the hands of the defending champs, and marked the first time in franchise history that New York had faced the same team in overtime in one season ... The Liberty captured the first overtime victory, while the Shock took the second overtime match victory.

FAMILIAR TERRITORY
With its win over the Sky on August 19th, the Liberty clinched the fourth and final Playoff berth in the Eastern Conference … Even though only four of 13 players on the roster had Playoff experience, it marked the eighth post-season campaign for New York, as a charter member of the WNBA.

DON’T MESS WITH CINDERELLA
When faced with the No. 1 seeded Detroit Shock in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals, the No. 4 seeded Liberty didn’t go down without a fight … After capturing victory in Game One and beating the Shock by a franchise Playoff best 22-point margin, New York lost by three points in Game Two and one point in a Game Three overtime thriller at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

LEADING LADIES
Seven New York players completed the regular season ranked amongst the League’s Top 20 leaders across nine statistical categories … Four of them ended up in the Top 10: Loree Moore for assists (3rd, 4.8), steals (2nd, 2.21) and minutes (5th, 34.2); Janel McCarville for field goal percentage (1st, .546); and Cathrine Kraayeveld for three-point field goal percentage (8th, .411).

PICKING POCKETS
New York’s 17 steals against Indiana on June 10th was a season-high for the team as well as the League (with Houston) … The Liberty finished the 2007 season tied for third place (with Houston) in steals per game and amassed 289 on the year.
