Liberty Announce 2003 Schedule
The defending Eastern Conference Champions open the regular season with back to back contests, on the road against the Cleveland Rockers on May 31, followed by a rematch of last years Eastern Conference Finals in the team’s home opener against the Washington Mystics at Madison Square Garden on June 1.
“As we enter our seventh season, the New York Liberty remains singularly focused on our goal – that’s to bring the WNBA Championship to New York,” said Carol Blazejowski, New York Liberty Senior Vice President and General Manager. “We look forward to hosting the WNBA All-Star Game at the Garden for the second time, and to providing our fans with the competitive basketball and fun-filled atmosphere that makes the Liberty experience so special.”
On Saturday, June 14, the Liberty, led by fifth year coach Richie Adubato, will host the defending WNBA Champion Los Angeles Sparks, in their only meeting of the season. On Wednesday, June 18, the team will travel to the WNBA’s newest home in Uncasville, Connecticut, to compete against the Connecticut Sun, formerly the Orlando Miracle.
“We continue to work hard this off-season so we can hit the ground running with the opening tip-off of 2003,” said four-time WNBA All-Star and Liberty Team Captain Teresa Weatherspoon. “There’s no question that we have the best fans in the League – and all of us involved with the Liberty are committed to working together to be successful. We can’t wait to get started.”
