The Chicago Sky have been eliminated from the playoffs, but they now have a chance to spoil the Atlanta Dream's chances of reaching the postseason.

The Dream look to end a four-game losing streak Saturday night when they visit the Sky in the opener of a home-and-home series.

Atlanta has struggled since the All-Star break, losing for the eighth time in 12 games with a 90-83 loss to visiting New York on Friday.

The Dream started Friday percentage points behind the Liberty for second place in the Eastern Conference, but the loss dropped them to fourth place. They now lead Connecticut by 2 1/2 games in the tightly packed conference as only 3 1/2 games separate the four teams fighting for the final three playoff spots.

Angel McCoughtry had 22 points Friday to lead Atlanta, but the league's second-leading scorer has struggled offensively when facing the Sky.

The All-Star forward has averaged 13.7 points - nearly eight below her season average - in three games this season against Chicago, but she did have her best game the last time these teams met.

McCoughtry scored 20 points but that wasn't enough to prevent Chicago from taking a 2-1 series lead over Atlanta with an 88-82 victory July 3. Sylvia Fowles tallied 22 points and 12 rebounds for the Sky.

Chicago has been virtually eliminated from the playoffs despite a 91-82 win over Phoenix on Tuesday.

Fowles had 24 points and 14 rebounds while Epiphanny Prince scored 16 for Chicago, which had lost five straight.

The Sky, who trailed by as many as 11 in the third quarter, put together a 17-2 run in the fourth to beat the Mercury for the first time in 10 tries.

Fowles was ejected with 3:07 to play after complaining to officials about a missed call seconds earlier.

"I know I'm big and I know I'm strong, but a foul is a foul,'' she said. ``And I feel like if I did it to an opponent it would be a foul. So this was my time to vent and let it all out because I've been dealing with this all season. I hate that I had to leave my team out there, but at the same time they need to understand what I'm feeling. (But) I think it put a spark in them."

The road team has won each contest between the Sky and Dream this season.

Dream beats Sky to clinch playoff berth

ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) Erika DeSouza scored 17 points and the Atlanta Dream beat the Chicago Sky 98-74 on Saturday night to clinch a WNBA playoff berth.

Iziane Castro Marques had 15 points for the Dream (19-13), who also snapped a four-game losing streak.

``They decided that that was enough,'' Atlanta coach Marynell Meadors said. ``They came out and played like they have been playing throughout the season, with a lot of enthusiasm and passion for the game. They shared the ball extremely well and played some really good defense.''

Atlanta outscored the Sky 31-11 in the second quarter to open a commanding 57-32 halftime lead. It led by as many as 35 points in the second half.

``We made it a little bit difficult to get the shots that they wanted earlier in the game,'' Meadors said. ``Our unit coming in off the bench came in and really defended well. They made it really tough on Chicago to get those shots that they wanted.''

The Sky, who were already eliminated from playoff contention, trimmed the final margin with a fourth quarter surge. But the effort wasn't enough to please head coach Steven Key.

``We should be embarrassed for (this) kind of play,'' he said. ``The hard part for us is that we know that's not us as a team. That's not the way we practice, that's not the way we played all season long.

``We owe it to the fans who've come to support us ... to never have a showing like that again.''

Chicago center Sylvia Fowles reached topped 1,000 career points early in the opening quarter and closed with 14. She reached the milestone the 8:40 mark with an alley-oop layup after feed from Mistie Bass.

Epiphanny Prince scored 18 points for Chicago (13-18).

Angel McCoughtry scored 13 for Atlanta. Alison Bales and Armintie Price each had 10.
