Sylvia Fowles is showing some of the brilliance the Chicago Sky envisioned when they drafted her two years ago.

Coming off the best performance of her career, Fowles looks to help the Sky extend their franchise-record winning streak to five when they host the struggling New York Liberty on Tuesday night.

Fowles had a career-high 32 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks to lead Chicago (4-4) to its fourth straight win, 95-70 over Tulsa on Saturday. Fowles, whose previous career high was 23 points in an 85-82 loss to the Liberty on May 16, made 12 of 16 shots.

"That was the player we drafted two seasons ago No. 2 and who could have been No. 1," coach Steve Key said.

Fowles, selected after Los Angeles took Candace Parker first in 2008, has been instrumental to the winning streak, averaging 23.0 points - 5.2 better than the first four games.

"To me, Sylvia hasn't even scratched the surface of her potential," teammate Shameka Christon said. "I told her, 'You can be the best post player in the world. Not just the league, but in the world.'"

Christon added a season-high 17 points against the Shock and made four of Chicago's 11 3-pointers. The Sky finished with season highs in points and 3-point shooting (52.4 percent).

Chicago's offense is leading the way during the winning streak, averaging 83.0 points on 42.9 percent shooting from 3-point range.

"We're really playing well right now, with great chemistry," Christon said. "We're clicking."

The Liberty aren't enjoying the same success, dropping four of five since beating Chicago in their season opener.

In Saturday's 78-73 loss to Indiana, Janel McCarville hit a 3-pointer with 13.1 seconds left to pull the Liberty (2-4) within three, but the Fever's Ebony Hoffman made two free throws and grabbed a rebound off Cappie Pondexter's miss in the final seconds to send New York to its second straight defeat.

Pondexter had 21 points and Taj McWilliams-Franklin finished with 11, but no other Liberty player scored more than nine.

Pondexter scored 22 points and McWilliams-Franklin had 20 against the Sky last month. McWilliams-Franklin hasn't been much of a factor since, though, averaging 10.6 points in the last five games.

Liberty snaps skid with 85-70 win over Sky

CHICAGO(AP) Cappie Pondexter scored a season-high 31 points and the New York Liberty snapped a two-game skid with an 85-70 victory over the Chicago Sky on Tuesday night.

The Liberty (3-4) used a 17-2 second-quarter run on the way to a 41-31 halftime lead, and Pondexter added 11 points in the third quarter as New York pushed the advantage to 69-43. The lead swelled to 27 in the fourth quarter before the Sky made a late run.

Liberty center Taj McWilliams added 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

Epiphanny Prince scored 20 points off the bench for Chicago, which fell to 4-5 and saw its franchise-record four-game winning streak snapped. Sylvia Fowles added 11 points.

Sky guard Dominique Canty had two field goals to hit 800 for her career. The 11-year veteran from the University of Alabama became the seventh WNBA player to match or surpass 800 field goals, free throws, rebounds and assists.

Pondexter missed a chance at setting her career high, which is 35 points, when Liberty coach Anne Donovan sat her starters with 4 minutes to play. The victory was the Liberty's second this season over Chicago, after an 85-82 win May 16 at Madison Square Garden.
