HOUSTON, Sept. 9 (AP) - Tina Thompson scored 21 points and helped the Houston Comets beat the Connecticut Sun 75-68 on Tuesday night.
The win snapped a five-game losing streak for Houston, which had been winless since the month-long Olympic break.
Thompson made seven of her 16 shots and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for the Comets, who were eliminated from the postseason chase with Sacramento's 77-74 win over Seattle.
Rookie Matee Ajavon added 17 points and Tamecka Dixon had 14 for the Comets, who snapped a seven-game losing streak to their Eastern Conference rivals. Before Tuesday, the last time Houston beat the Sun was on July 17, 2004.
Asjha Jones scored 22 points and Tamika Whitmore added 19 for Connecticut.
The Comets used a 14-2 run in the third to break open a close game. Dixon got things started with a 14-foot jumper with 8:03 left, and Michelle Snow capped that burst with a free throw with 1:35 left to make it 55-39.
The Sun have already clinched a playoff spot and are battling Detroit for the East's No. 1 seed. The two teams are tied atop the conference.
