Storm-Lynx Preview
Posted Jul 21 2008 5:10PM

A listless performance halted the Seattle Storm's franchise-record winning streak and prevented them from getting a share of first place in the Western Conference.
They'll get another chance to move into a tie atop the conference on Tuesday when they continue their four-game road trip against the Minnesota Lynx.
The Storm (15-8) opened their swing by winning their seventh straight game, 65-59 over Indiana on Friday to move within a half-game of West-leading San Antonio. But Seattle failed to tie the idle Silver Stars on Sunday, committing 23 turnovers and scoring eight second-quarter points in an 89-57 loss at Washington.
"We were just really bad," said Storm guard Sue Bird. "For us, it was just one of those games. You put it in the past. You learn from it and move on."
Seattle, which is 3-7 on the road, will be without two-time league MVP Lauren Jackson, as she is training in Australia for next month's Beijing Olympics. She's third in the league with 20.2 points per game and tops Seattle with 7.0 rebounds and 1.6 blocks.
With Jackson out, Bird - who will be headed to Beijing as a member of the US team - has become the focus of the offense, but she has just five total assists in the last two games while scoring 11 in each contest.
She leads the WNBA with 5.8 assists per game and is second on the Storm in scoring (12.8).
Bird had 12 points and dished out a season-high 11 assists in Seattle's 96-71 win over Minnesota (11-11) on July 5.
The Lynx, who are coming off Saturday's 87-74 win at San Antonio, are expected to have coach Don Zierden back as they try to move above .500 for the first time since they were 6-5 after a loss at Detroit on June 20.
Zierden has missed the last two games because of an illness, and assistant Julie Plank filled in.
Seimone Augustus, who will also play for the United States at the Olympics, didn't appear to be hampered by her coaches' absence on Saturday, making 11 consecutive shots and finishing with a season-high 30 points.
The forward is fourth in the WNBA with 19.7 points per game, and had 14 against Seattle earlier this month.
Rookie guard Candice Wiggins is also looking to continue her strong play. She had 24 points Saturday after posting a season-high 27 in a 96-88 loss at Houston on Thursday.
Minnesota and Seattle have split the last four meetings with the hosts winning each game.
