Lynx-Comets Preview
By MIKE VOTTA, STATS Senior Writer

The Minnesota Lynx are hoping they've finally reversed their fortunes in Houston.

The Lynx will be trying to wrap up a home-and-home sweep on Thursday when they visit the Comets.

Minnesota (10-10) has won just three of its 17 games at Houston, but earned a 98-92 victory there on May 27 in the first meeting between the teams this season. The teams have split two games in Minnesota since, although the Comets (9-12) still own a 25-9 lead in the all-time series.

The Lynx managed to narrow that deficit somewhat Saturday, beating the Comets 85-71 in the first game of this home-and-home set. Seimone Augustus scored 27 points in her second 20-point effort against the Comets - she had 25 on the road in the May matchup.

Minnesota had dropped nine of 12 and two straight prior to Saturday since a July 3 win over Los Angeles.

"I know the last time that I was aggressive was the L.A. game," said Augustus, who leads the team with 19.3 points per game. "The difference in that game and the one in Seattle (a 96-71 loss on July 5) was that I wasn't aggressive. I think my teammates feed off me being aggressive, and I am going to try and do it more often, on a consistent basis."

Anna DeForge chipped in 17 points and was 5-for-10 from the 3-point line. The Lynx, who made 10 of 20 shots from beyond the arc, did not trail after the first quarter.

"If the first couple go, you just want to keep looking at the rim, keep being aggressive," DeForge said. "I think offensively we just stayed disciplined. We executed what we were supposed to, and we shared the ball really well."

Houston lost its third straight due in part to problems hanging onto the ball. The Comets, who turned over the ball 22 times in their previous game, committed 17 turnovers that led to 23 Lynx points.

Houston is averaging 17.1 turnovers per game.

"We didn't come out with enough energy," Comets coach Karleen Thompson said. "They were the aggressors. That is what we want to be. Once that ball gets sliding downhill it's hard to stop."

Michelle Snow scored 14 points and Tina Thompson, who leads Houston with and average of 17.6, chipped in 12. Thompson and Augustus will both play for the U.S. Olympic team in Beijing.

"When players and teams make shots, I think it gives them energy on the other end of the floor as well," Minnesota coach Don Zierden said. "I do think Seimone was aggressive right from the start, and that is what the best player on your team and the leader on your team needs to do."
