CHICAGO, July 10 (AP) -- Ann Wauters scored 23 points and the San Antonio Silver Stars ran the WNBA's longest active winning streak to six games with a 75-67 win over the Chicago Sky on Thursday night.
San Antonio (14-6) owns the best record in the league. Chicago (5-12) has lost three straight and eight of last 10.
"I think now we're at the middle of the season and (reached) that next level. And if you want to be a great team, you've got to win on the road,'' Wauters said.
Wauters scored 17 in the first half for the Silver Stars, who took a 39-29 halftime lead.
San Antonio trailed only once early and took command in the second quarter with a 16-8 surge, anchored by guard Edwige Lawson-Wade, who scored seven points in a reserve role.
The Silver Stars extended the lead to 21 points by the end of the third period as guard Becky Hammon shot 3-for-9 and scored seven points in the frame.
"Everybody played today and got some good minutes,'' Wauters said. "We can still do better. We had some moments in the game where you have some ups and downs and we can still improve, but I'm really excited where we're at now.''
The Sky never got closer than eight points in the final quarter, despite outscoring San Antonio 23-10.
"They went zone on us (in the third) and kind of rattled us,'' Chicago coach
Wauters came within one point of matching her season-high of 24 set last month at Minnesota. Hammon added 12 points, and Lawson-Wade had 11 points for San Antonio.
Jia Perkins paced the Sky with 17 points. Candice Dupree had 13 and Dominique Canty scored 12.
