The Washington Mystics have played a road-heavy schedule in June. After a slow start away from home, they finally seem to be turning things around.
The Mystics look for their fourth straight road win on Sunday when they visit the slumping Seattle Storm.
Washington (6-8) lost its first five away from home this year, including three straight road games to begin June. But the Mystics have shown improvement recently, and extended their road winning streak to three with a 77-74 overtime victory over Los Angeles on Thursday.
Monique Currie led the Mystics with 24 points, including a key 3-pointer in overtime - the only points either team scored during the extra period.
"It gives us a lot of confidence to start this West Coast trip," said Currie, who is second on the Mystics with 13.6 points per game, but has averaged 20.0 in her last three. "We haven't been playing as well as we have liked, so this really changes the momentum and gives us a lot of energy."
Alana Beard, the team's scoring leader with 18.9 points, added 17 before fouling out. Taj McWilliams-Franklin pulled down a season-high 13 rebounds to go along with 12 points.
The Mystics wrap up their road swing on Tuesday at Sacramento. First, they look to hand the Storm just their second home loss in nine games in 2008, although Seattle (8-7) has struggled recently regardless of where they play.
The Storm come in having lost four of their last five. After beating Indiana on June 20 to snap a three-game skid, Seattle fell 76-62 to the Sparks on Tuesday.
Sue Bird led the Storm with 11 points, and Lauren Jackson - averaging a team-high 19.3 points - was held to 10 on 3-of-10 shooting from the field in her second-lowest scoring game this season.
The slumping Storm have been held below 70 points in four of their last five games, but coach Brian Agler may be more concerned about their rebounding. Seattle gives up 71.5 points, one of the lowest figures in the league, but is being outrebounded by 2.7 per game
The recent addition of forward Camille Little, who is expected to make her Seattle debut on Sunday, may help.
The Storm acquired Little last Sunday from expansion Atlanta. She averaged 3.1 rebounds per game with the Dream this season, and played last year with San Antonio, where Agler was an assistant.
"He knows what I am capable of," Little told the Storm's official Web site. "I didn't have to prove myself all over again. I know exactly what he wanted from me, so I kind of had an edge. I feel like, I know what I am here for, so that's what I plan to do."
Seattle has won three of its last four against Washington, including two straight at KeyArena.
