The Minnesota Lynx broke a five-game losing streak with their biggest win of the season.
Now they hope to put together a more positive string of games they host the Sacramento Monarchs on Thursday in the finale of a three-game homestand.
Minnesota (7-6) recorded its first win since June 8 on Tuesday, 91-69 over New York. The 22-point victory was the largest of the season for the Lynx as they emphatically ended their skid.
"We wanted to get back on the winning track," said center Nicole Ohlde, who hit her first six shots and finished with 14 points. "We knew this one would be important because we needed to win at home. ... We just need to get that off our back and hopefully we can string some wins together."
Seimone Augustus had 21 points and nine assists while Candice Wiggins added 15 points for the Lynx, who led by as many as 16 in the first half and outscored the Liberty 26-13 in the fourth quarter. They shot 50.8 percent from the field overall.
The Lynx are the WNBA's second-highest scoring team at 82.5 points per game, but they averaged 75.6 during the losing streak. Minnesota began the season 5-0, averaging 87.2 points during those five games.
Ohlde scored in double figures for just the second time this season Tuesday. She's averaging 7.2 points after scoring 11.5 per game in 2007.
"We hope that's something she can build off of," coach Don Zierden said. "We need that, we desperately need somebody to score for us in the post, and tonight she did a nice job."
On Thursday, Minnesota tries for back-to-back wins against a team that handed it one of the losses during its five-game slide.
The Monarchs (6-7) beat the Lynx 82-78 on June 12 behind 18 points apiece from Nicole Powell and Crystal Kelly. Sacramento, though, has since lost three of four, including a demoralizing 78-73 defeat at Indiana on Tuesday.
The Monarchs blew an 18-point lead, making just seven field goals in the second half.
"This was a shame," coach Jenny Boucek said. "It hurt us a lot and it was frustrating."
Sacramento had its three-game road winning streak snapped.
The Lynx have lost six in a row at home to the Monarchs since an 83-73 overtime win July 11, 2004.
