The Chicago Sky may have turned the corner after a slow start, something the Washington Mystics have been unable to do.
Chicago will try to tie a franchise record with its third straight win on Friday night when it meets Washington, which has dropped five in a row and is winless on the road this year.
The Sky (3-4) moved into position to equal the team mark after sweeping a home-and-home series from expansion Atlanta. Last Friday, Chicago ended a three-game skid with an 86-72 victory, and followed that on Saturday with a 91-70 home win.
Jia Perkins totaled 35 points in the wins, including 14 in the third quarter on Saturday.
"My teammates give me the ball, and they look for me to knock down the shot," said Perkins, averaging 14.8 points this season to rank second on the team behind Candice Dupree (16.0).
The Sky's Chastity Melvin - a former member of the Mystics who is seeing more time at center in place of injured rookie Sylvia Fowles (sprained knee) - combined for 24 points and 12 rebounds in the wins over the Dream. Fowles, a former LSU star selected second overall in this year's draft, is expected to miss up to five more weeks.
Chicago won three straight for the only time in the franchise's two-plus seasons from July 21-26.
The Sky, though, have dropped three in a row to Washington (2-7), which enters this game averaging a league-worst 69.0 points per game.
The Mystics (2-7) continued their losing ways on Wednesday, falling 79-76 at home to Sacramento. Taj McWilliams-Franklin scored 23 points of 10-of-11 shooting from the field with five blocks, and Alana Beard added 17 points and a game-high seven assists.
Beard leads Washington with 19.1 points per game. McWilliams-Franklin is the Mystics' second-leading scorer (13.0) and top rebounder (8.1).
Monique Currie, acquired from Chicago in May 2007 for Melvin, was 6-of-17 from the field and finished with 16 points in the loss to the Monarchs.
The Sky, though, appear to have gotten the better of that deal. In four games against her former team, Melvin has two double-doubles while averaging 14.5 points and 11.2 rebounds, compared to Currie with 9.3 points and 3.3 boards per meeting.
Washington, which also faces 1-7 Houston on a brief road swing, is 0-5 away from home this season and has been outscored by an average of 10.0 points.
