Sparks Eclipse Sun in Overtime

LOS ANGELES, June 13 (AP) -- Sidney Spencer sank a 3-pointer with 1:18 left in overtime and Kiesha Brown added four free throws and a steal in the closing seconds to give the Los Angeles Sparks a 98-93 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Friday night.

Brown tied her career high with 11 assists, Lisa Leslie had 22 points and 10 rebounds, DeLisha Milton-Jones scored 20 points and Marie Ferdinand-Harris added a season-high 19 for the Sparks (6-2), who have won four of five.

Lindsay Whalen had 20 points, seven rebounds and four steals to lead the Sun (8-2), whose five-game winning streak ended. Asjha Jones and Tamika Whitmore added 18 points apiece.

Connecticut, which trailed by 14 points in the first quarter, led 93-91 when Spencer made a 3 to put Los Angeles ahead 94-93.

Brown stole the ball with 22.9 seconds left, got fouled by Whalen and made two free throws with 18.9 seconds to go.

After Milton-Jones tipped a rebound off Whitmore, Brown got fouled by Whitmore and made two more free throws with 0.7 seconds remaining.

The Sparks led 87-83 with 1:52 left in regulation, but Whalen made two shots in a 35-second span to forge an 87-87 tie with a minute to go.
