Sun Beat Mystics for Fourth Straight Win

UNCASVILLE, Conn., June 8 (AP) -- Asjha Jones scored 16 points, and the Connecticut Sun opened the second half with a 19-0 run en route to an 87-79 victory over the Washington Mystics on Sunday.

The Sun (7-1) won their fourth-straight game and took a half-game lead over Detroit atop the Eastern Conference.

Monique Currie scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Mystics (2-6), who rallied from a 24-point deficit to pull within eight in the fourth quarter.

Currie shot 11-of-16 from the field and added six rebounds and four assists before fouling out late in the fourth. Alana Beard added 21 points for the Mystics.

Lindsay Whalen had 15 points, seven assists and seven rebounds for the Sun.

The Sun led 41-38 at the half, then blew open the game with a 19-0 run to start the third. Washington didn't score in the third period until Coco Miller hit a jump shot with 3:07 left.

Barbara Turner added 15 points for Connecticut, and Tamika Whitmore scored 13.
