The Minnesota Lynx are looking to bounce back from their first loss of the year. Facing the San Antonio Silver Stars at home should help.
The surprise Western Conference-leading Lynx go for their 11th straight home win against San Antonio on Sunday night.
Minnesota (5-1) hasn't dropped a game at the Target Center to the Silver Stars (3-3) since May 25, 2002, when that franchise was based in Utah. The Lynx were 10-24 last year, but closed out the season with an 81-55 home rout of San Antonio behind a club-record 14 assists from Noelle Quinn.
After rallying from 10 points down in the second half Friday, Minnesota led Connecticut by five with 1:39 to play, but lost 78-77 to the Sun after Seimone Augustus missed a 17-foot jumper at the buzzer.
Augustus paced Minnesota with 22 points and six assists. In three games against San Antonio last season, she averaged 23.3 points on 54.0 percent shooting (27-of-50) from the floor.
The Lynx's rookie trio of Candace Wiggins, Nicky Anosike and Charde Houston had 29 points and 21 rebounds in the loss. Wiggins scored nine of her 17 in the fourth quarter.
San Antonio relied on outstanding defense late and improved to 3-0 at home in 2008 with a 63-52 win over Washington on Friday. The Silver Stars led by only one going into the fourth quarter, but held the Mystics to six points in the final period.
Becky Hammon led San Antonio with 20 points and Erin Buescher added 12 and seven rebounds.
"I haven't shot it very well, so you just keep shooting. You know, eventually they're going to go in," said Hammon, who scored 16 in the second half. The point guard has shot 11-for-24 in the last two games after going 12-for-48 from the field in her first four contests.
She totaled 30 points in two games versus Minnesota in 2007.
San Antonio may be without its leading scorer for Sunday's game. Sophia Young, who averages 17.8 points, left in the first half after aggravating a strained groin. She finished with eight points, ending a streak of 25 games in which she reached double digits.
"We want her to be there long-term," Silver Stars coach Dan Hughes said of the decision to keep Young on the bench after halftime. "So the team definitely stepped up tonight."
