The Indiana Fever can clinch the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs with a win over the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday night in a potential preview of an opening-round postseason matchup.

Indiana (19-12) and Connecticut (17-14) will likely square off in the first round of the playoffs, but the Fever can clinch home-court advantage in round one by beating the Sun, who have won 11 of the last 13 meetings and all three this season.

Connecticut swept Indiana in the first round of the 2005 playoffs.

The Sun have won their last three games at Conseco Fieldhouse, thanks mostly to leading scorer Katie Douglas. The Indianapolis native had a career-high 30 in a 78-74 victory on June 22, and is averaging 23.7 points this season against Indiana, which shot just over 38 percent in those games.

Douglas hasn't played well recently, however, averaging only 8.7 points in her last three games. She managed only 10 on 4-of-12 shooting from the field and also missed a potential game-winning jumper with two seconds left in a 65-64 loss at Washington on Tuesday.

Connecticut let a 13-point lead slip away, and fell to 1-1 on a four-game road trip that concludes Friday at New York.

The Sun received a big game from center Margo Dydek, who had 17 points and 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Dydek has come on strong down the stretch, averaging 12.8 points in August after entering the month averaging only 5.9.

The Fever are just 3-7 since All-Star forward Tamika Catchings sustained a partial tear of the plantar fascia in her left foot during an 89-80 loss to Detroit on July 20. Catchings is averaging team highs of 16.6 points and 9.0 rebounds, but it is unclear if she will return for the postseason.

Indiana has been playing better recently without its superstar, but missed a chance at a three-game winning streak with a 74-69 loss to the league-leading Shock on Saturday. The Fever squandered a 10-point halftime lead and trailed by as many as 15 in the fourth.

"We gave them too big a lead and even though we had a fast and furious last five minutes and had a chance, sometimes the margin is too big to overcome," Fever coach Brian Winters said. "Against a good team like that, you can't let that happen."
