New York Victorious in Detroit

AUBURN HILLS, July 6, 2007 (AP) -- Janel McCarville had a season-high 18 points and career-best 12 rebounds to lead the New York Liberty to an 82-81 overtime win over the Detroit Shock on Friday.

She scored four points in overtime before fouling out. Her teammates watched Detroit's Deanna Nolan miss a shot with 3 seconds left and hung on for the victory, which left the Liberty 2-2 on their four-game road trip.

Cathrine Kraayeveld added 14 points and Loree Moore had 13 points and nine assists for New York (9-8).

Cheryl Ford scored 22 points and had 18 rebounds for the Shock (11-5), who lost their third straight and fell a half game behind Eastern Conference leader Indiana. Nolan, who sent the game to overtime with a late 3-pointer, added 21 points and eight assists and Katie Smith had 19 points.

Nolan made the 3-pointer with 4.2 seconds to play in regulation. Moore got a great look at the potential winning shot but her jumper bounced off the rim as time expired.

The Liberty outscored the Shock 9-3 in the first three minutes of the overtime but Nolan hit a 3-pointer and Swin Cash added two free throws in the final minute of overtime to cut the lead.

The Shock started the second quarter on a 6-0 run to break a 15-15 tie and went to halftime with a 37-32 lead. New York trailed by six points in the third quarter before rallying to tie the game early in the fourth.
