PHOENIX, July 6 (AP) -- Cappie Pondexter hit a 14-foot shot with 2.1 seconds left in the second overtime to lift the Phoenix Mercury to a 111-109 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Friday night.
Connecticut (6-11) failed to get a shot off in the final seconds to lose for the ninth time in 11 games.
Penny Taylor led the Mercury with 30 points while Pondexter added 25, including 19 in the second half and overtimes. Tangela Smith and Diana Taurasi added 18 for Phoenix (11-7).
Asjha Jones and Nykesha Sales each scored 22 points to lead the Sun, who led by 14 in the first half.
At the end of regulation, Kristen Rasmussen hit a 3-pointer with 28 seconds left to give Connecticut a 93-90 lead.
Smith's layup with 27.5 seconds left in the first overtime gave Phoenix a 102-100 lead, but Sales followed with a 15-footer to force the second overtime.
Taylor became the fourth player in WNBA history to score 25 points or more in four straight games. Connecticut set a franchise record for 3-pointers with 16.
Katie Douglas and Rasmussen each added 17 points for the Sun. Rasmussen had 13 rebounds and made 5-of-6 from outside the 3-point line.
Pondexter scored eight of the Mercury's first 10 points of the second half to help Phoenix erase a 49-43 halftime deficit.
But the Mercury didn't lead until the final 3:46 of regulation until an 11-0 run, capped by a driving layup and free throw that gave Phoenix an 85-83 edge.
Connecticut outrebounded Phoenix 52-38 and made 16-of-31 from beyond the arc, both franchise records.
Taurasi added nine assists and eight rebounds for the Mercury, who have won four in a row.
