Sun Use Second-Half Rally to Sink Comets

HOUSTON, June 8 (AP) -- Nykesha Sales scored 26 points to lead the Connecticut Sun to an 88-77 victory over the winless Houston Comets on Friday night.

After Houston took an 18-point lead in the first half, the Sun outscored the Comets 43-15 to begin the second half to take a 10-point lead on a layup by Katie Douglas with 7:12 left in the fourth quarter.

Houston (0-6) closed within six points on Latasha Byears' basket with 1:40 left, but that was as close as the Comets would get.

Connecticut (4-2) led 22-21 after the first quarter, but Houston outscored the Sun 25-8 in the second quarter to go ahead 46-30 at halftime. Tina Thompson led the Comets with seven points in the second quarter, and Michelle Snow, Hamchetou Maiga-Ba and Byears each scored six in the period.

Sales scored 10 points and Asjha Jones added nine in the third quarter to lead Connecticut's deciding run.

The Sun took the lead for good on a layup by Sales with 26 seconds left in the third, and she extended the lead to five points with a 3-pointer with four seconds left in the quarter to give the Sun a 62-57 lead.

Douglas had 22 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Sun, while Jones added 19 points.

Snow led Houston with 22 points and Thompson added 19. Byears came off the bench to score 14 points, and Maiga-Ba finished with 10 points.

This was the fourth time this season Houston lost a double-digit lead.
