INDIANAPOLIS, May 24 (AP) -- Tamika Catchings had 24 points and eight assists to lead the Indiana Fever to an 83-70 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Thursday night.
Catchings, who had 12 points in the season-opening win over Minnesota, was 8-for-14 from the field and had five assists.
Chamique Holdsclaw led the Sparks (1-1) with 23 points and six rebounds, while Taj McWilliams-Franklin added 12 points and six rebounds.
The Fever (2-0) forced 20 turnovers and outrebounded the Sparks 34-29.
Indiana led 49-38 early in the third quarter before Los Angeles got hot. A 3-pointer by Holdsclaw capped a 12-1 run for the Sparks and tied the score at 50 with 3:15 left in the period.
But Tan White's 3-pointer from the right corner with less than a second left in the quarter capped the Fever's 10-2 run that made it 60-52.
Indiana led by as many as 17 points in the final period.
The Fever led 42-33 at halftime behind 15 points from Catchings on 5-for-7 shooting.
