SAN ANTONIO, May 23 (AP) -- Becky Hammon scored 17 points and the San Antonio Silver Stars held off the Connecticut Sun 74-71 on Wednesday night after blowing most of a 25-point lead.
Hammon, acquired from New York in a draft-day trade, made two free throws with 5.8 seconds left and finished 9-of-10 from the line.
Shanna Crossley had 16 points - all in the second quarter - for the Silver Stars (1-1). Erin Buescher added 12, and Sophia Young had 11.
Katie Douglas led the Sun (1-1) with 21 points, seven rebounds and eight assists. Asjha Jones added 20 points, and Ericka de Souza had 14.
Down by 25 with 6:11 to go in the third quarter, the Sun rallied it cut it to 72-71 on Jamie Carey's 3-pointer with 6.8 seconds left.
The victory ended the Silver Stars' five-game losing streak against the Sun that dated to July 15, 2004.
