Detroit jumped out to a 26-10 lead after the first quarter and led comfortable thereafter against Connecticut, which did not have the services of star players Lindsay Whalen and Katie Douglas.
Taj McWilliams-Franklin scored 13 points to pace the Sun (26-8), who already had secured home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. The two-time reigning Eastern Conference champions will play the fourth-seeded Washington Mystics in the first round.
