CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, Aug. 12 (Ticker) -- Sheri Sam and Tammy Sutton-Brown helped keep the the expansion Chicago Sky down.

Sam scored 18 points and Sutton-Brown keyed a second-half spurt as the Charlotte Sting defeated the Sky, 84-57.

Kelly Mazzante hit four 3-pointers and scored 14 points for the Sting (11-23), who dropped the first two games to the lowly Sky this season.

Sam connected on 7-of-9 field goals and added five rebounds in 20 minutes and Sutton-Brown had 13 points and seven boards.

Trailing, 26-23, with just under eight minutes remaining in the second period, Charlotte countered with a 20-2 run and led comfortably thereafter. Sutton-Brown scored six points in the spurt and Monique Currie capped the blitz with two free throws for a 43-28 lead with 1:07 left in the first half.

The Sting continued to pull away in the second half and grabbed their biggest lead, 80-48, on a 3-pointer by Mazzante with 4:09 left in the contest.

Bernadette Ngoyisa had a career-high 23 points and 10 rebounds and Candice Dupree added 16 and 10 for Chicago (4-29), which lost its seventh straight game.
