NEW YORK, Aug. 11 (Ticker) -- All-Star Becky Hammon could not get it done, but Barbara Farris did.

Farris scored the game-winning basket with 1.7 seconds remaining to give the New York Liberty a 64-62 victory over the Charlotte Sting.

The Liberty rebounded well from Tuesday's 33-point loss to Indiana, their worst loss of the season. They shot 42 percent (21-of-49) from the field and forced 23 turnovers Friday.

Helen Darling's jump shot pulled Charlotte into a 62-62 tie at the 2:05 mark. The teams traded empty possessions and Hammon missed a layup with four seconds to go, but Farris tapped in the offensive rebound to seal the victory.

Farris scored just five points.

Janel McCarville hit a turnaround jumper and LaToya Bond drained two free throws as Charlotte took a 60-59 lead with 3:44 remaining. Hammon responded with 3-pointer 21 seconds later.

In her first start since July 19, Hammon scored 15 points and Iciss Tillis added 10 for the Liberty, who opened the contest with an 18-5 burst.

Sheri Sam had 15 points and four steals for Charlotte, which shot 36 percent (22-of-61), including 7-of-16 3-pointers.
