SACRAMENTO, Calif., August 6 (Ticker) -- Ticha Penicheiro saved her best for last to help the Sacramento Monarchs escape with a win.

Penicheiro scored nine points in the second overtime and Yolanda Griffith finished with 17 points and a season high-tying 13 rebounds as the Monarchs won their fourth straight game, a 99-95 triumph over the Washington Mystics.

In winning for the 11th time in 14 contests, the defending champion Monarchs reached the 20-win plateau for the second straight season. Sacramento has won all six home games against Eastern Conference opponents this year and extended its overall home winning streak to eight.

Although she made just 5-of-13 shots, Penicheiro scored Sacramento's first nine points in the second extra period. She made three free throws, a jumper and two layups to tie her season high of 15 points and give Sacramento a 95-91 lead.

After Alana Beard made a basket for Washington with 1:23 left, Kara Lawson and Griffith combined to hit 4-of-4 free throws down the stretch to seal the win. Sacramento looked as if it would run away with the contest after an impressive first quarter. Lawson made a pair of 3-pointers and Griffith hit two layups during a 16-3 run that gave the Monarchs a 29-14 lead.

Washington gradually chipped away throughout regulation and got within 81-79 when Beard made a basket from the arc with 30 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. Moments later, Chasity Melvin hit a layup as time expired in the period, forcing overtime.

Lawson scored a season-high 17 points and Nicole Powell added 14 for Sacramento, which held a 46-28 rebounding edge.

Beard scored 23 points with a career-high nine assists and Melvin added 18 points for the Mystics, who had four starters foul out.
