INDIANAPOLIS, August 3 (Ticker) -- Tamika Whitmore scored 18 points and
Tamika Catchings added 17 to lead the Indiana Fever to a 69-59
triumph over the Minnesota Lynx.
It was the fifth victory in the last eight games for Indiana
(18-11), which climbed within two games of Detroit (19-8) for
second place in the Eastern Conference.
Catchings collected seven rebounds, six assists and four steals
while Anna DeForge scored 11 points for the Fever, who ended the
contest with a 10-0 run.
With the game tied, 59-59, Catchings drilled a short jumper with
1:30 remaining to break the deadlock and give Indiana the lead
for good. DeForge knocked down a crucial 3-pointer just 30
seconds later, extending the advantage to 64-59.
Rookie sensation Seimone Augustus scored 16 points and Amber Jacobs added 11 for Minnesota (9-20), which has dropped a
season-high five straight contests.
