NEW YORK, August 3 (Ticker) -- Barbara Farris and Ashley Battle were determined to prevent the Detroit Shock from reaching a milestone.

Farris scored 17 points and Battle added 13 as the New York Liberty posted their fourth win in five games, a 75-67 triumph over the Shock.

Avenging a 64-63 loss to Detroit on June 1, New York kept the Shock from recording their 20th victory for the second time in franchise history and first since 2003, when they won the league championship.

Detroit (19-9) lost for just the fifth time in 20 games after splitting its first eight and fell 3 1/2 games behind Connecticut (23-6) in the race for first place in the Eastern Conference.

Farris scored 10 of her points in the third quarter, including six in a row, to spark the Liberty's 21-4 run that resulted in a 63-43 lead with 10 seconds remaining in period.

Shameka Christon scored 12 points and Cathrine Kraayeveld added 10 with a career-high 12 rebounds for the Liberty, who had a 39-34 rebounding edge.

Swin Cash made 7-of-11 shots and scored 17 points, Cheryl Ford added 14 and Kedra Holland-Corn 13 for the Shock, which slipped to 8-7 on the road.
