NEW YORK, July 24 (Ticker) -- Katie Douglas once again put together a
star-studded performance at Madison Square Garden.
Douglas scored nine of her 16 points in the third quarter as the
Connecticut Sun posted an 89-71 victory to hand the New York
Liberty their 11th consecutive loss.
In her first game here since July 12, when she scored 16 points
and was named the Most Valuable Player in the East's first win
in the WNBA All-Star Game, Douglas again came up with big shots.
With the Eastern Conference-leading Sun (18-6) holding a 50-44
lead with 7:50 to play in the third quarter, Douglas hit a pair
of 3-pointers during a 12-4 run. Taj McWilliams-Franklin, who
scored 22 points, had three baskets during the spurt, which put
Connecticut ahead, 62-48, with 3:58 left.
McWilliams-Franklin added two more baskets to start the fourth
period, making it 75-56 with 8:45 remaining.
Lindsay Whalen scored 16 points and Asjha Jones chipped in 13
for the Sun, who beat the Liberty for the third time this season
with one game remaining in the season series.
Cathrine Kraayeveld scored a career-high 22 points and Erin Thorn added 19 off the bench for New York (4-20), which absorbed
its sixth straight home setback in becoming the first WNBA team
to reach the 20-loss plateau.
