SEATTLE, July 9 (Ticker) -- Tamika Catchings and the Indiana Fever took
advantage of the sloppy Seattle Storm.
Catchings had 20 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four
steals as the Fever capitalized on a franchise-record 28
turnovers by the Storm for a 74-62 victory and a sweep of the
season series.
Anna DeForge scored 15 points and also had four steals for the
Fever, who had 15 steals and stopped the Storm's three-game
winning streak.
The Fever took the lead for good at 20-18 on a layup by
Catchings with 5:13 left in the second quarter that triggered a
7-0 burst. Indiana put away the game with a 22-0 run across
halftime.
Ebony Hoffman scored five of her nine points in a 10-0 spurt
that closed the first half and gave the Fever a 35-22 advantage.
DeForge scored five points in a 12-0 surge that opened the
third period.
A 3-pointer by Catchings extended the margin to 47-22 with 8:22
left in the third quarter. Indiana coasted home as Seattle got
no closer than eight points in the fial minute.
Tamika Whitmore scored 13 points for the Fever, who overcame 20
turnovers.
Lauren Jackson scored 19 points and Sue Bird added 12 for the
Storm, who were just 1-of-12 from the arc. Bird was one of five
Seattle players with four turnovers.
