UNCASVILLE, Conn., July 6 (Ticker) -- Lindsay Whalen helped the Connecticut Sun sweep away the Charlotte Sting.

Whalen made 12-of-12 free throws and scored 20 points as the Sun completed a sweep of the four-game season series with a 76-71 victory over the Sting.

Margo Dydek had 13 points, nine rebounds and three blocks for the Sun, who won the first three meetings by an average of 22 points. They never trailed Thursday but were pushed to the limit by the Sting, who have lost 10 of their last 11 games.

A basket by Tangela Smith, who scored 17 points, gave Charlotte a 70-70 tie with just under a minute to go. Two free throws by Dydek gave Connecticut the lead for good with 23 seconds to play.

Sheri Sam split a pair from the line, making it a one-point game. Whalen answered with two foul shots for a 74-71 lead with 19 seconds to go before Katie Douglas made a steal and Megan Mahoney sealed the win with two free throws.

Taj McWilliams-Franklin scored 12 points, and Douglas added 11 for the Sun, who did not have a basket in the final 6:29 but made 14-of-14 free throws during that stretch.

Tammy Sutton-Brown scored 13 points, and Sam added 12 for the Sting, who made 10-of-13 free throws. Connecticut sank 24-of-27.
