MINNEAPOLIS, July 5 (Ticker) -- Rookie sensation Seimone Augustus
helped end the Minnesota Lynx's struggles.
Augustus scored 25 points and Amber Jacobs added 15 and six
assists as the Lynx snapped their five-game losing streak with a
84-74 victory over the shorthanded Washington Mystics.
The 6-foot Augustus made 9-of-15 shots and sank all seven free
throws. She ranks second in the WNBA in scoring behind
Phoenix's Diana Taurasi at 22.4 points per game.
Augustus nailed a jumper and Kristen Mann scored on a layup as
the Lynx built an eight-point advantage in the fourth quarter
with 4:22 remaining. However, the Mystics pulled within 73-71
three minutes later on Chasity Melvin's basket.
Minnesota pulled away for good as Augustus' driving shot at the
1:04 mark helped spark an 11-3 surge to close the game. The
Lynx made 9-of-10 from the line in the final minute to seal the
win.
Mann and Svetlana Abrosimova scored 13 points apiece and Nicole Ohlde contributed seven and 10 rebounds for Minnesota, which
shot 46 percent (28-of-61) from the field.
Nikki Teasley collected 20 points and nine assists and Crystal Robinson scored 19 points for the Mystics, who shot 41 percent
(30-of-72).
Alana Beard, Washington's leading scorer, missed the game due
to a sprained ankle suffered against Los Angeles Sparks
Saturday.
