Sting-Sky: Play |
The Sky's latest win had some added significance as they avoided matching the longest losing streak in league history set by the now-defunct Portland Fire from July 27, 2001-June 3, 2002.
Jackson scored nine points in the first half, when the Sky shot 53 percent (17-of-32) from the field and opened a 43-36 lead. Dupree scored five points in the third period to help Chicago extend the margin to 59-49.
Dupree converted a layup with 6:22 remaining to give the Sky their biggest lead at 64-51. However, the Sting came storming back with a 14-3 run, pulling within 67-65 with 1:55 left on two free throws by Tangela Smith, who scored 13 points.
But the Sky were able to hold on as Amanda Lassiter split a pair of free throws with 1:15 to go, then made two more from the line 18 seconds later to rebuild the lead to 70-65.
Monique Currie scored 15 points to lead the Sting (3-12), who made just 2-of-17 shots from the arc and committed 15 turnovers in losing for the eighth time in nine games.
Chicago shot 41 percent (26-of-63) and committed just six turnovers.
Next Games: The Charlotte Sting host the Sacramento Monarchs on Saturday, July 1 at 6 p.m. ET and the Chicago Sky travel to San Antonio to take on the Silver Stars on Saturday, July 1 at 8 p.m. ET.
