Winning for the first time in six road games this season, Charlotte raised its June record to 2-9 by holding on after failing to maintain a 15-point halftime lead.

After shooting just 16 percent (4-of-25) from the floor and setting a season low for points in a half (16), the Liberty scored 34 in the third quarter and took a 59-57 lead on Cathrine Kraayeveld 's layup with 7:22 left.

Sam, who made 8-of-18 shots, converted a layup with 2:40 remaining to put Charlotte on top, 66-64. After Shameka Christon hit two free throws for New York, Tangela Smith 's layup gave the Sting a 68-66 edge with 1:25 remaining.

Becky Hammon, who entered shooting nearly 96 percent (46-of-48) from the foul line, made just 1-of-2 free throws for the Liberty with 1:01 to go. Sutton-Brown, Sam and Helen Darling followed by sinking 5-of-6 foul shots down the stretch to seal the win.

Kraayeveld scored a career-high 18 points and Christon and Hammon added 11 each for New York, which failed in its bid to record its first three-game winning streak of the season.
