PHOENIX, June 25 (Ticker) -- Rookie sensation Cappie Pondexter kept the expansion Chicago Sky on their downward spiral.

Pondexter scored 23 points and Kamila Vodichkova added a season-high 19 and nine rebounds as the Phoenix Mercury coasted to a 90-77 triumph over the Sky, who have dropped 13 straight games to tie a league record.

With the loss, Chicago matched the 2002 Detroit Shock for most consecutive defeats in a single season. The Sky's lone win came in their inaugural game May 20 at Charlotte, which visits Chicago on Thursday.

Phoenix built an eight-point lead after one quarter and extended its margin to 46-29 when Pondexter converted a three-point play with 2:38 remaining, capping a 12-0 surge.

The Mercury held a 51-37 advantage at intermission as they shot 55 percent (19-of-34) from the field. Diana Taurasi scored all 14 of her points before the break.

Pondexter created more distance in the third period, scoring 12 straight Phoenix points for a commanding 67-47 bulge with 3:57 left.

The Mercury shot 47 percent (32-of-68) overall and made 11-of-27 3-pointers.

Rookie Candice Dupree had 15 points and two blocks and Bernadette Ngoyisa added 13 points off the bench for Chicago, which shot 45 percent (30-of-66).
