NEW YORK, June 16 (Ticker) -- Tina Thompson scored 22 points and Dominique Canty added 16 as the Houston Comets posted a 72-58 victory over the New York Liberty.

Michelle Snow had 15 points and seven rebounds and Dawn Staley collected nine assists for the Comets, who beat the Liberty for the second time this season. Houston was playing the opener of a three-game road trip.

After a sluggish first quarter, the Comets used a 12-2 run late in the second quarter to build a 37-31 advantage at the break. Sheryl Swoopes capped the burst with a layup, moving her past the 4,000-point mark in her career.

The Liberty went cold from the field over the final 4:27 of the half, missing all seven of their shots. They also committed four turnovers that led to four points for the Comets.

Snow scored eight points in the third quarter, helping the Comets extend the lead to 54-45. Houston used an 11-0 run to start the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.

Sherill Baker scored 12 points, and Becky Hammon and Shameka Christon added 11 apiece for New York, which dropped its second straight home game and fell to 1-3 at Madison Square Garden.
