NEW YORK, June 7 (Ticker) -- Katie Douglas, Taj McWilliams-Franklin and
the Connecticut Sun were determined to prevent the New York
Liberty from recording their first winning streak of the season.
Douglas scored 17 points and McWilliams-Franklin added 16 and
seven rebounds as the Sun pulled away for a 75-60 triumph over
the Liberty.
McWilliams-Franklin produced 12 points in the first half to
stake the Sun to a 41-34 lead at the break. Connecticut led by
52-44 after three quarters and stretched its advantage to as
many as 16 points late.
The Sun, who improved to 5-1, shot 52 percent (29-of-56) and
limited the Liberty to 37 percent (24-of-65).
Kelly Schumacher scored 14 points and rookie Sherill Baker added
13 off the bench for New York (1-5), which lost four straight
road games to open the season before defeating Los Angeles here
on Saturday in its home opener.
