CHICAGO, June 4 (Ticker) -- Katie Smith kept the Chicago Sky looking
very much like an expansion team.
Smith scored 21 points to lead a balanced attack as the Detroit
Shock posted an 81-66 victory over the Sky.
Deanna Nolan added 13 points and Ruth Riley 12 and 14 rebounds
for the Shock, who had a double-digit lead whittled down to four
early in the fourth quarter before they pulled away for good.
In an effort to spark his team, Sky coach Dave Cowens and rookie Candice Dupree, Bernadette Ngoyisa and Deanna Jackson
into the starting lineup. But the move failed to work as the
Sky lost their fifth straight game since a season-opening
victory at Charlotte.
The Shock, who placed five players in double figures, shot 41
percent (27-of-66) and held a 44-33 rebounding advantage.
Detroit has won four of its last five games.
Amanda Lassiter scored 19 points to pace Chicago, which shot 34
percent (23-of-67) and made 8-of-15 3-pointers.
