CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Dave Cowens and the Chicago Sky opened their season with an impressive win. Now the defending champion Sacramento Monarchs come calling on Tuesday.

Chicago gave up a 16-point lead in the fourth quarter only to regroup for a thrilling 83-82 triumph in its inaugural game against Charlotte on Saturday. Rookie Candice Dupree had 19 points and six rebounds while Chelsea Newton and Stacey Lovelace-Tolbert scored 12 points apiece.

The Sky's starters struggled in their opener, scoring just 27 points compared to 56 from their reserves. Chicago scored 23 fast-break points and 38 in the post.

Sacramento began defense of its title in stellar fashion as Erin Buescher scored 18 points off the bench and Rebekkah Brunson recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in a 105-78 win over Phoenix on Saturday.

All-Star Yolanda Griffin leads the charge in the paint with 18 points as the Monarchs held a commanding 56-32 edge in points.
