Mystics open season vs Liberty at home
New York (0-1) at Washington (0-0) 7:00 pm EDT
WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Alana Beard and the Washington Mystics
hope to begin their season on a positive note against the New
York Liberty on Tuesday.
Beard looks to continue her improvement in year two in
Washington, boosting her scoring, rebounding and assists a
season ago. Newly acquired Nikki Teasley should provide some
experience and leadership for coach Richie Adubato.
Rookie Tamara James, who left Miami as the all-time leading
scorer, hopes to add some depth in the post for the Mystics.
All-Star Becky Hammon had 20 points and five rebounds and
Shameka Christon scored 19 points but if wasn't enough as the
Liberty dropped a 91-74 defeat to Connecticut in their season
opener on Saturday.
New York stumbled in the first half as it was outscored, 48-33
and never recovered.
The Liberty took three out of four in the season series last
year.
