SEATTLE, May 23 (Ticker) -- Tina Thompson and the Houston Comets bounced back.

Thompson scored 15 of her 19 points in the first half as the Comets coasted to an 84-59 victory over the Seattle Storm.

Dominique Canty also scored 19 points and Sheryl Swoopes 15 for the Comets, who rebounded from Saturday's 79-63 home loss to San Antonio with a solid all-around performance.

Thompson was one of the many players who struggled in the season opener as she scored just five points on 2-of-12 shooting. But the veteran forward came out aggressive Tuesday, making 5-of-7 shots in the first half to help the Comets build a 40-29 lead.

In the first half, the Comets shot 59 percent (17-of-29). Seattle shot 32 percent (11-of-34) in the opening half and never was able to recover.

Thompson was held without a point in the third quarter but Swoopes scored seven in the period that ended with the Comets holding a comfortable 61-44 advantage.

Sue Bird scored 12 points and Barbara Turner 11 for Seattle, which was unable to build on its impressive 90-67 season-opening victory over Los Angeles.
