UNCASVILLE, Conn., May 20 (Ticker) -- Nykesha Sales and the Connecticut Sun are looking to get off to another quick start.

Sales had 19 points and 10 rebounds and the Sun used a suffocating defense to roll to a 91-74 victory over the New York Liberty in the season opener for both teams.

Taj McWilliams-Franklin had 16 points and eight boards and Asjha Jones added 12 and seven off the bench for Connecticut, which held a 41-27 advantage on the glass and dominated virtually every facet of the game.

Connecticut shot 48 percent (33-of-69) from the field, including 8-of-16 from the arc. Sales made 5-of-7 3-pointers.

The Sun won their first 10 home games last year, when they reached the WNBA Finals for the second straight season.

Connecticut never trailed, scoring eight of the first 10 points. The Sun held leads of 18-10 after one period, 47-33 at halftime and 74-51 entering the fourth quarter before coasting home.

In the first half, Connecticut limited New York to 12 baskets while forcing 13 turnovers.

Becky Hammon scored 20 points and Shameka Christon added 16 and eight rebounds for New York, which shot 36 percent (22-of-61).
