INDIANAPOLIS, May 20 (Ticker) -- The Indiana Fever caught fire at the right time.

Tamika Catchings had 16 points and 14 rebounds as the Fever took over down the stretch en route to a season-opening 67-60 victory over the Detroit Shock.

Anna DeForge added 14 points and Ebony Hoffman collected 13 and 13 rebounds for the Fever, who used a 16-2 surge over the final 3:14 of the contest.

DeForge's 3-pointer with 2:01 remaining gave the Fever the lead for good at 59-58.

Bringing back only four players from their team that lost to Connecticut in the Eastern Conference finals last season, the Fever were able to open the 2006 campaign on a positive despite shooting just 26 percent (15-of-57).

Katie Smith scored 19 points and Cheryl Ford and Deanna Nolan had 10 apiece for Detroit, which squandered a 29-20 halftime lead.

The Shock shot 37 percent (25-of-68) and made just 1-of-12 3-pointers.
