Fever-Sun: Play |
The Sun (24-8) had their sights set on a bigger prize - the league's best overall record and home-court advantage throughout the postseason. Having won 13 of their first 14 games at Mohegan Sun Arena, they were looking like the team to beat before suffering back-to-back loses to New York and Indiana.
A jumper by Nykesha Sales, who scored 14 points, pulled the Sun into a 61-61 tie with 1:10 left. Deanna Jackson answered with a layup 25 seconds later to give the Fever the lead for good.
Catchings sank two free throws with 31 seconds to play and Miller added a technical foul shot. Taj McWilliams-Franklin cut the deficit to 66-63 with a layup, but Tully Bevilaqua made two free throws and Sales was whistled for an offensive foul while trying a 3-pointer.
Natalie Williams and Jurgita Streimikyte scored 10 points each for Indiana, which shot 52 percent (24-of-46) from the field.
McWilliams-Franklin scored 16 points for the Sun, who were beaten on the boards, 26-19.
