Kelly Miller scored 13 points, including five in an 11-1 surge that gave Indiana the lead for good at 16-6 with 13:31 left in the first half. Catchings' 12 points helped the Fever hold a 35-26 halftime lead.
The Sting closed to 54-51 with 9:06 left on a three-point play by Tangela Smith, who scored nine points. But Charlotte managed just one basket the rest of the way and fell to 0-16 on the road.
Having set a record for the most road losses in a season, the Sting must win at playoff-bound New York on Friday to avoid joining the 1998 Washington Mystics (0-15) as the only winless road teams in WNBA history.
The Fever (19-12) remained one game in front of New York for second place in the East, which receives home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
Sheri Sam scored 15 points for the Sting, who had 21 turnovers and just 18 baskets.
