The defending WNBA champion Storm came in on a season-high skid. They got some good news earlier Thursday as Lauren Jackson and Sue Bird were voted as starters in next month's All-Star Game.

But they could not turn things around against the worst team in the Western Conference and lost to the Silver Stars for the first time in five meetings. Seattle (7-8) is under .500 this late in the season for the first time since 2002.

Ferdinand had a lot to do with that. Following a lackluster first half, she lit up Seattle's backcourt of Bird and Betty Lennox in the second half.

San Antonio took the lead for good at 56-55 on a basket by Ferdinand with 7:25 to play. Rookie Katie Feenstra made a free throw before a pair of hoops by Ferdinand pushed the margin to 61-57 with 4:38 left.

A 3-pointer by Dalma Ivanyi, who scored 14 points, made it 66-59 with 2:12 remaining.

Shannon Johnson scored 18 points and Chantelle Anderson added 13 for the Silver Stars (5-12), who shot 47 percent (27-of-57) from the field and ended a two-game slide.

Jackson, who was benched in Seattle's last game, had 17 points and 15 rebounds. The Storm shot under 34 percent (26-of-77).
