After missing the first four games of the season with a sprained right ankle, Beard has scored in double figures in four straight contests and led the team in points in the last two games.

Washington (3-5) went on a 16-4 run early in the second half, capped by a layup by Beard, to take a 44-32 lead with 13:44 remaining.

Playing without All-Star Sue Bird, who sat out her second game with two broken bones in her face, Seattle (5-3) scored 10 straight points to get within 51-48 with 6:04 to go.

However, Charlotte Smith-Taylor hit a 3-pointer and Chasity Melvin made a layup to extend Washington's edge to 57-48 with 2:14 left.

Smith-Taylor and Melvin scored 11 points apiece and Temeka Johnson added 10 for the Mystics, who forced 21 turnovers.

Betty Lennox and Lauren Jackson scored 18 points each for the Storm, who had a 34-26 rebounding edge. Seattle lost for just the second time in its last seven games.
