AUBURN HILLS, Mich., May 24 (Ticker) -- The Detroit Shock used
Andrea Stinson's veteran leadership to salvage a victory.
Stinson made a pair of 3-pointers in the final 3:11 and the
Shock scored the last 16 points to defeat the San Antonio Silver
Stars, 74-65.
In her third game with Detroit after eight seasons with
Charlotte, Stinson sank a 3-pointer with 3:11 remaining, cutting
the deficit to 65-61. Kara Braxton made a layup with 2:39 to
go and Cheryl Ford made 1-of-2 free throws with 1:52 left to
bring the Shock within one.
Braxton hit a turnaround jumper to give Detroit a 66-65 lead
with 1:22 remaining. After LaToya Thomas committed a turnover
for San Antonio, Stinson hit another shot from the arc with 57
seconds to play.
Ford scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Detroit, which
had five scorers in double figures. Deanna Nolan and and
Elaine Powell added 11 points apiece for the Shock (3-0).
Detroit had a 37-26 rebounding edge and won its sixth straight
regular season game dating to last year.
Thomas and Wendy Palmer scored 16 points each for the Silver
Stars (0-2), who shot just 31 percent (10-of-32) from the floor
in the second half and lost their fifth straight meeting with
Detroit.
