UNCASVILLE, Conn., Sept. 3 (Ticker) -- The New York Liberty were tired and the Connecticut Sun took advantage.

Playing their second game in as many nights, the Liberty shot just 32 percent from the field and got to the line eight times in a 61-43 loss to the Sun, who further tightened the Eastern Conference.

On Thursday, the Liberty stormed back for a 56-52 home victory over Charlotte, erasing a 15-point deficit for their fifth win in six games. Less than 24 hours later, they were on the road against the Sun, who are fighting for a playoff berth.

The Liberty made just 17-of-53 shots, including 4-of-19 3-pointers, and 5-of-8 free throws. They also committed 20 turnovers. Elena Baranova scored a team-high nine points.

New York matched the second-lowest point total in franchise history. It managed 41 at Miami on Aug. 6, 2000.

Katie Douglas had 13 points and five steals for the Sun, who snapped a three-game slide. Connecticut shot 46 percent (25-of-54).

New York (14-13) is the only team in the East above .500. Connecticut (14-15) is one game back and Washington (12-15) is sixth and last but just two games out. The top four teams make the playoffs.
