Smith, who averages 18.8 points per game, injured her right knee a week ago and is expected to be sidelined two to three weeks. Minnesota won without her Wednesday, defeating league-worst San Antonio. But this one was a different story.
The Lynx (14-11) made just 17-of-58 shots with no starters scoring in double figures. They were led by Vanessa Hayden, who scored 12 points. Nicole Ohlde and rookie Tasha Butts both missed all five of their shots and Amanda Lassiter and Amber Jacobs were each 1-of-4.
Betty Lennox scored 23 points and backcourt mate Sue Bird added 12 and five assists for the Storm (16-8), who have won six of their last seven games.
Seattle never trailed after a driving layup by Lennox provided a 22-20 lead with 6:39 left in the first half. The Storm led, 30-26, at halftime and pulled away in the second half as the Lynx could not put together a rally.
Minnesota lost for just the second time in nine games.
