SAN ANTONIO, July 30 (Ticker) -- A pair of new coaches still could not prevent the San Antonio Silver Stars from losing again.

Co-coaches Shell Dailey and Vonn Read absorbed could not inspire a win in their debut as the reeling Silver Stars suffered a 68-59 loss to the Phoenix Mercury.

Earlier Friday, Dee Brown resigned as coach after guiding San Antonio to a league-worst 6-18 record in his first season with the club.

With the game tied, 46-46, Penny Taylor's 3-pointer with 9:04 remaining gave Phoenix the lead for good. The 23-year-old Australian scored 18 points.

Anna DeForge scored 23 points for the Mercury, who were 8-of-19 from 3-point range. DeForge made 5-of-11 from the arc.

LaToya Thomas scored 17 points to lead the Silver Stars, who have lost five consecutive games and 10 of 11. They are 3-18 since a 3-1 start.
